June 30 DefensivenessDefensive routines are entrenched habits we use to protect ourselves from the embarrassment and threat that comes from exposing our thinking. Defensive routines form a protective shell around our deepest assumptions, defending us against pain, but also keeping us from learning about the causes of the pain. The source of defensive routines is not belief in our views or desire to preserve social relations, but fear of exposing the thinking that lies behind our views. (Peter Senge. The Fifth Discipline: The Art & Practice of The Learning Organization.)
Wishing you peace and well being as you unlock your defensiveness.
PS: Remember to hold the one's you love just a little closer and tighter this week. June 23 What Can You Do?A group of 1,800 people answered the following questions with a hand-held voting device:
The results were consistent. Eighty percent agreed that the boss, their peers and their subordinates needed to change. Only 20 percent thought they needed to change. (Sue Annis Hammond and Andrea B. Mayfield. The Thin Book of Naming Elephants: How to Surface Undiscussables for Greater Organizational Success.) Wishing you peace and well being as you open yourself to what you as an individual can do; what you as an individual needs to remember when you listen to others; and what you can do as a leader within your organization and/or work group. PS: Remember to hold the one's you love just a little closer and tighter this week. June 16 HolesA hole refers to any part of you that has been lost, meaning any part of you that you have lost consciousness of. What is left is a hole, a deficiency in a cetain sense. And what we have lost, is of course, our essence. When we are not aware of our essence, it stops manifesting and is lost. It could be the loss of love, loss of value, loss of capacity for contact, loss of strength, loss of will, loss of clarity, loss of pleasure, any of those qualities of essence. There are many of them. But when they are lost, they are not gone forever, they are never gone forever. You are simply cut off from them. The presence of desires and needs indicates the presence of holes. (A. H Almaas. Listening for Holes. The Wisdom of Listening. [Ed] Mark Brady)
Wishing you peace and well being as you discover your holes.
PS: Remember to hold the ones you love just a little closer and tighter this week. _/l\_ June 09 A Sketch from LifeSometimes we look at a scene and after a moment just keep looking, because it is beautiful, or interesting, or sad, or for no reason at all, but just for the sake of looking. Sometimes a moment, just as it is, seems so full of life it must have meaning, even though we may find it difficult to explain. In fact, the moment we try to explain we stop looking, and a little color goes out of the world. Before we know it, the present has become the past and we are somewhere else. (Clark Strand. Seeds from a Birch Tree.)
Wishing you peace and well being as you observe life freshly.
PS: Remember to hold the one's you love just a little closer and tighter this week. _/l\_ June 02 Extending Yourself to OthersHuman life is a rich opportunity; we should use it wisely, which means doing what our mind naturally yearns to do -- extend itself to others with kindness and care. Wishing you peace and well being as you extend yourself to others. PS: Remember to hold the one's you love just a little closer and tighter this week. _/l\_ |
